No stone is left unturned in your blog and its topic. It does a great job of enhancing gaming beyond the stereotypes it has and continues to be associated with. I like how you weave it into the larger public debates, in particular with gun control, first amendment rights and your post on human rights concerns about a proposed bill in Afghanistan. You open up a world of gaming that isn’t shown in a lot of mainstream media. I was not aware of the extent to which the politics of gaming is covered on a regular basis. I think it would be beneficial to your blog and its debate if you provided more balance to those who might have a legitimate argument on the negative impacts of gaming. There are some posts where you give short introductions to a person and their disagreement but quickly dismiss them as being anti-gaming. I would be curious to see you, as a gamer, hold the mirror to the industry and explore a little self-critiquing. It doesn’t have to be criticisms on content alone. It can be business, lobbying or its assimilation into mainstream media.
As someone who can’t even pretend to have an interest in video games, I think you do a great job of analyzing the issues surrounding gaming and making it clear to the average reader. Granted, your audience is most likely people who do have a more vested interest in gaming. But I think you address topics in a way that can interest a range of readers.
I really like your site design — it feels very “game-y” The icons lined up beside each post add to that feel. One thought: your navigation jumps around a bit. You have widgets on the right-hand side, but then comments and posts down at the bottom. It’s a little confusing to navigate. I don’t know if that’s built into your theme or if it’s something you can play with.
Like I said before, I think your content is very strong, but you might get your audience to keep reading or go a couple of layers deeper if you break down your categories a little bit more. Instead of having just the three broad topics, you could break it down even more by game name or specific issue or what have you. Then if someone really likes one post on GTA 4, they can see everything you’ve written.
Overall, good job bringing a topic like gaming to the average reader.
